JOIN THE CLEAN WATER PARTNERS—BECOME AN AWWA MEMBER Membership in the Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance offers the opportunity to join your friends and neighbors dedicated to keeping the lakes and ponds of the Acton-Wakefield area clear and clean for future generations to enjoy. Did you know that storm water runoff is the #1 pollution threat to our lakes and ponds? Water runoff occurs everywhere. The water runoff that enters our lakes and ponds picks up phosphorus as it courses over the soil. Too much phosphorus causes excess weed growth and severe algae blooms. The water quality you depend on suffers when excess weeds and algae occur. There are simple solutions to most erosion problems. AWWA identifies the problems and provides the expertise to eliminate erosion issues. What we do on and to the land determines the quality of the water in our lakes and ponds. If we are careful and thoughtful in our land use, water quality will be maintained and may even improve over time. If we are careless and don’t see the connections between our land and our water, water quality will suffer and all the citizens of the Towns will lose.
